Katrina: The Blackmail of New Orleans

by Victor Thorn

When all is said and done, here is the bottom line in regard to Hurricane Katrina and the debacle which ensued. What happened was that FEMA deliberately delayed their ‘emergency’ response efforts until Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco signed over the city of New Orleans to our federal government. It’s that simple.

FEMA Director Michael Brown was nothing more than a hired hit-man who played the ‘incompetence’ angle by withholding food and water, cutting communication lines, turning away medical care, and allowing chaos to run rampant until the misery index surged to such extremes that Ms. Blanco had no choice but to succumb to their demands.

This act was nothing more than good old-fashioned blackmail where our government held the people, and the city of New Orleans, hostage. Plus, with their corporate mainstream media in tow exploiting the rape-murder-looting angle, it soon became clear that the feds wanted to be the one to decide who got the lucrative construction contracts (Halliburton, KBR, etc), what specifically got rebuilt (and what got demolished), and what types of people would be allowed to stay and/or return (being that the city was now ‘condemned’ and eminent domain would soon take hold).

Of course we all know what these overriding factors mean. New Orleans will undergo an urban renewal face-life where the perceived “undesirables” will be relocated while a new Las Vegas oil-empire is created in its place (with lots of money changing hands in the process).

Isn’t it amazing how certain groups of ‘select’ people can opportunistically capitalize on a “natural” disaster?
